what not to do!

Don’t Go up the mountain without enough time!

  • Make sure you have enough time to get down the mountain. Your first time up Payday could be at least 1.5 hours.

  • Snow dancer is a usual first step for blue lessons out of Canyon Village but it is a big step from high meadow. Your first trip could take a minimum of 1 hour if your class is prepared. If they are not ready it can take much longer.

Don’t just change terrain to add challenge.

  • Challenge your students with drills and skills on the same terrain they are comfortable on to make it harder. If you run out of drills regularly, talk to our experienced staff at line up, join in on training to get more ideas and ask questions.

  • We are a skill school, can they turn their legs, tip to an edge, keep skis parallel, make small turns, change turn size, do a hockey stop?

Don’t move to harder terrain at the end of your lesson.

  • Your last run should never be the hardest run or a new run.

  • Review the skills they have learned. Be mindful of tired legs and minds.

  • Cool down as the lesson ends to keep your students safe.

Remember you ski every day, your students do not. Monitor their energy, anxiety and strength throughout the lesson.
