TEACHING THEORY

The science behind learning and instruction revolves around five core fundamentals of instruction: Guided Discovery, the Teaching Cycle, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the CAP Model (The three main domains of learning), and the Performance Learning Curve.  Understanding the five core fundamentals and appealing to individual student learning styles creates a foundation of success for our instructors.

Guided Discovery

The theory of guided discovery revolves around a positive relationship between the instructor and student.  The instructor provides a foundation of knowledge and allows the students to develop an answer in their own manner, through individual interpretation.  Guided discovery promotes opportunities to embrace the concepts of learning an idea with the foundation and knowledge of support through an instructor’s interactive guidance.  Guided discovery in a group-learning environment supports students who engage and interact with his or her peers.  The peer group interaction allows for greater knowledge retention and stimulation than a single learner environment.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Our guests have basic needs, which need to be met before we challenge them both mentally and physically.  Successful lessons ensure basic fundamental needs are met before the learning cycle occurs.
